Lack is probably one of the most common lies that a believer deals with. Lack, is a lie that loves to constantly flail his arms in front of your face Moneygram money order and say, “look at me! Look at me!, here I am, I know you can see me! Put all your eyes on me!” Lack will speak to us in many forms, and present himself in many ways. Whether it be through the monthly bills, empty cupboards, empty gas tank, to looking at million dollar needs to get certain ministry projects done effectively. Lack will tell you that you cannot do something great in God due to you do not have this or that. Just because you cannot see in the natural a resource does not mean that you do not “have it”. Lack is purely a cover up. Lack is a lie that tries to cover up the truth of Gods provision He has already made for you.
The first time we find the lie of lack in the Word is right in Genesis 3 where Satan twists God’s word to make Eve focus on something she “can’t have” or something that she thinks she is “missing”. Right from the beginning the enemy’s first attack on mankind is to get mankind to think and believe God is withholding something from them. Not much has changed. The enemy still can’t come up with anything new! He is still pulling the same tricks, and we certainly are not un-aware of his schemes. (God had made Adam and Eve in His image, in the exact “likeness” of God and placed them with all authority and dominion in the midst of ALL PROVISION for ANYTHING and everything they might need.) God surrounds them with provision on every side of the garden and gives them the power to call and speak to things though they are not as though they were.
Gen 2:19b “…and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.”
Again, God made mankind in His image to carry His divine nature. Part of God’s nature is to call things though they were not as though they were. When God said, “let there be light”, He had to believe His own word that there would be light, because at the time He spoke there to be light, there was no light, but instead there was darkness. How much more rich can mankind get? Mankind can speak to something that though it doesn’t exist and bring it into existence!!! That is us, the richest people on planet earth. Glory!
In Gen chapter 3 we see the enemy gets Adam and Eve to believe they are “missing” something. In God there is nothing missing, nothing broken and nothing lacking.
At that time Eve’s perception of the image of herself, which is the image of God began to slide. That she wasn’t like God as God had created her, as the enemy said “you shall surely not die, but you shall be like “gods”, but they were already “like gods”-From the very beginning the enemy got them to believe and perceive that they were not made in God’s image and were lacking something. It has not changed! People still think they are missing things in God and that they are not made in His image, His exact likeness, His divine nature. The enemy gets Eve to focus on the one tree that God says to stay away from, and we find satan saying, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” Yet, God had said EVERY tree was for them, but one. He loves us so much that He tells us in advance what will harm us if we should partake of it, as it is not His will for us to be harmed in any way. So now here, the enemy gets Eve to begin to think there is something missing from her life, when all around her is provision of EVERY kind, anything she might need for sustenance and abundance in life.
It was a cover up, underneath lack is all provision a person could ever need or want. The enemy got Eve’s eyes on lack, which was a lie. Do not look at the lie, but look at the provision! It might sound a bit corny right now, but don’t look at the glass half empty, but full!
The enemy even used the same tactics on Jesus! In Matthew 4 when Jesus was led into the wilderness the first thing the enemy does is try to get Jesus to eat something when He had been fasting for 40 days. Jesus responds, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread along, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” In other words mankind’s provision does not come from earth or his own doings, but provision comes from God and God alone. Then the second thing the enemy tries to tempt Jesus with, is that He is not made in the image of God, just like he did to Eve. Satan says, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down…” challenging Jesus on the image of God, and it didn’t work, so he tries again by offering Jesus all the kingdoms of the world, but Jesus was already lined up to receive all the kingdoms of the world! Glory! Where these tactics worked in the garden, they did not work on Jesus. He stood His ground, and did not give into the lies. Then after Jesus came out of the wilderness He ministered:
Matt 4:17 “…Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Repent means to “change your mind” and kingdom means “rule or realm”. So Jesus is saying after He beat the devil at his own game, “change your mind, from your past experience of lack, the rule and realm of the power of God is here now.” Change your mind, the miracle you need is here, whether physical, social, mental or economical, because when Jesus came, He brought a permanent change for mankind’s condition. Glory!
Faith is our assurance that we have what we are in need of or what appears to be lacking. Faith is a substance and what you need is a substance. That’s all it is and does not matter if you need a vehicle or a skyscraper, doesn’t matter if you need food or clothing, doesn’t matter if you need shelter or divine idea-they are all substance. All substance is created by God. Faith will produce that substance that is needed for the believer. Faith will get your eyes off of lack and get your sight onto the Word of God. We do not walk by sight, not by natural sight, we walk by faith. Faith sees. Faith sees the Word of God and nothing else! Faith uncovers the lie of lack.

Wow, I sure can relate to that. My biggest stumbling block to using my gifts in ministry is the constant inner thoughts: Youre too old now. Life has passed you by. Youre not handsome enough. Churches only hire young handsome worship leaders now. Youre a loser, you will never make it because you lack the proper image. etc….
Hi Kurt… don’t let those thoughts rule you… YOU rule them! Just identify that those thoughts are NOT yours…
Thank you for an awesome post. I am consistently struggling w/ the area of lack. I am not well respected in my home due to that. We struggle financial all the time in our home. With a wife and 2 children I am challenged w/ what I am suppose to do. Logical opportunities close right in front of me. I have a small business that I believe is has Kingdom impact but it’ very early. I am at a point in my life where shifts in the norm have to change. My family life depends on it. Don’t know why I am sharing all of this. I guess I am trying to hear from God any way I can. Blessings!
1. Make sure you are tithing! Thats our covenant of protection, provision, and the Lord rebuking the devourer off our life. Although lack is a lie, it doesn’t mean that we do not go through challenging times… the Lord never promised us that there wouldn’t be any challenges, He promised us that we already HAVE the victory over ALL challenging, circumstances… we all fight the good fight of faith. a good fight of faith is a fight that we WIN! Keep your eyes on the Word of the Living God, keep them fixed on His promises. He won’t let you down, but we have to do our part and not just hear the word, but mix our faith with the Word.
God bless!
I’m humbled by your writing. I firmly believe that you interpret the Scripture in a new way in a new song. I pray God continue the good work in you until the day of Christ Jesus. God is infinite, He doesn’t understand the word “lack”.
